Oxford Networks Fiber Optic Infrastructure
New fiber optic connection bridges Maine to other New England states
E-mail messages sent out of state can now reach their destination faster and more reliably than ever, thanks to a new, high-speed fiber optic network built by a pioneering Maine company.
Revolution Networks, a subsidiary of Oxford Networks, recently completed an extended fiber optic infrastructure that extends the high-speed, high-capacity access between Maine and other states in the Northeast. The Maine-based company provides service and support for Telephone companies, Cellular providers, Long Distance companies, internet providers and other telecommunications carriers throughout the Northeast.
The just-completed fiber construction project extends Revolution Networks' existing Bangor-to-Portland fiber network through Biddeford, Sanford and into Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and eventually leads to a terminus in Massachusetts.
"This network connection represents a significant milestone for the Maine telecommunications industry," said Brian Paul, Vice President and General Manager of Revolution Networks. "Not just in the high-speed, across-the-border service it provides our customers, but this newly created fiber network provides much-needed redundancy for all telecommunications users - for Internet, Long Distance, Cellular, or for high-speed data lines used to connect a business that has multiple offices. In the telecommunications business, redundancy means reliability."
According to Paul, redundancy relates to the existence of more than one network path that data can travel. Providers with only one path can be brought down by any one of several network problems-such as a broken line. With additional paths, messages can be routed along different lines, making many problems invisible to users. "It's like driving your car to Boston," said Paul. "If there's an accident that closes the Turnpike, you can still get there by taking Route 1."
Oxford Networks, one of New England's oldest yet fastest growing telecommunications companies, recently obtained 100% ownership of Revolution Networks by purchasing all remaining shares of Northeast Competitive Access Providers (NeCAP), which operates under the Revolution Networks name. "This has been a busy and exciting few months for us," said Paul. "The high-speed connection to New Hampshire is something Maine has needed for a long time, and we're glad to be the ones that made it happen."
Revolution Networks offers a variety of communications services and support over its 380-mile high capacity fiber optic network that now runs from Bangor to Portsmouth. The network carries voice, data, and internet traffic for long distance companies, internet providers, local telephone companies and large businesses in Maine and New Hampshire. Revolution Networks' mission is to help carriers compete by providing the right solution to fit their individual needs.
