Oxford Networks acquires majority share of Revolution Networks
Oxford Networks, one of New England’s oldest telecommunications and internet companies, became the majority shareholder of NeCAP and it’s subsidiary Revolution Networks. Under the terms of the agreement signed in Portland, Maine last week, Oxford Networks and UniCap (a subsidiary of UniTek, Inc) become the owners of NeCAP.
Revolution Networks offers a variety of communications services and support over it’s 380 mile fiber optic network that runs from Bangor to Portsmouth. The network carries voice, data, and internet traffic for long distance companies, internet providers, local telephone companies and large businesses in Maine and New Hampshire.
Prior to the agreement, Revolution Networks was equally owned by five companies: Oxford Networks, Unitek, Merrimack County Telephone Company, FairPoint, and PCS of New England.
“This acquisition fits perfectly with Oxford’s growth strategy to expand through out Maine with our own Network.” said Rick Anstey, President of Oxford Networks. “Revolution Networks is a brand new network run by the best possible people.”
Revolution Networks will retain its name, but will operate as a division of Oxford Networks.
“This was a great opportunity for Unitek,” said Larry Sterrs, President and CEO of the Unity-based company. “We see the value of Revolution Networks and we are prepared to move full speed ahead. This was the right opportunity and the right time for this to occur.”
“This change in ownership will allow Revolution Networks to focus on it’s Portsmouth and Manchester, NH expansion of it’s fiber optic network. This is scheduled for completion later this year.” said Brian Paul, Vice President and General Manager of Revolution Networks.
Oxford Network’s Anstey notes that the purchase of Revolution Networks comes at a time when many technology companies are struggling. “Oxford is financially strong enough to make acquisitions in spite of the telecom industry recession that has weakened many of our competitors.”
Headquartered in Buckfield, Maine, Oxford Networks has been in existence for over 100 years and provides telecommunications and internet service to nearly 30,000 homes and businesses throughout central, western and southern Maine. In 2001, the company was honored with the Governor’s Award for Business Excellence. Oxford Networks also has offices in Portland, Auburn and Norway.
