Maine's First Network Access Point (NAP) a success story.

Oxford Networks, a 100 year old telephone company, completed construction of Maine's first Network Access Point (NAP) in January of 2001. Since then, the NAP has proven to be a major competitive advantage for those carriers and ISP's that participate. The fiber cut of 10/22 had no affect on those businesses due to the redundancy and resiliency built into the facility.

A NAP can best be described as a major intersection in the information highway. All of the top carriers need to connect their networks at some point. This point has always been in other states such as New York, Massachusetts, or New Jersey. Oxford Networks decided it was time to keep Maine traffic in Maine and built the first NAP. Multiple fiber carriers, redundant power, secure facilities, and many options for carriers to participate has made the NAP a great success. How much closer to the internet do you want to be?
